Brain and spine surgery in Tabriz, for patients outside Iran.

This page is for visitors and Iranians living abroad who are thinking of being seen by Dr. Morteza Khalilzadeh, a brain and spine surgeon in Tabriz. It explains what to collect before you come and how to reach the support team.

Before you travel

Gather what you have. Clear copies or phone photos are fine to start with.

  • MRI and CT images themselves, on a disc or as a download link, not only the written reports
  • Any nerve conduction (EMG/NCV) results
  • The report of any earlier brain or spine operation, and details of any implant
  • For a brain tumour: the pathology report and any radiotherapy or chemotherapy you have had
  • Treatments you have already tried, such as physiotherapy or injections, and how you responded
  • Recent blood test results
  • Every medicine you take now, especially blood thinners, and your allergies and long-term conditions
  • A short timeline: when the symptoms began and how they have changed

The way to send these documents is still being confirmed. For now, call the international support line: +989302272111

Practical questions

Can a decision about surgery be made from my images alone?

No. Your images help the doctor understand your situation, but a decision comes after an examination and sometimes further tests.

Should I stop or change my treatment before I travel?

No. Do not stop or change any treatment or medicine without your own doctor. Tell your treating team about your travel plans, and bring your medicine list.

How long would I need to stay in Tabriz?

It depends on whether you need surgery and which operation. Hospital stay and recovery differ widely, so the doctor can tell you only after the first visit.

I have new leg weakness or trouble passing urine. Can I wait until I travel?

Please do not wait. If you have any of the warning signs in the guide, get care where you are today. See the list of urgent signs in the guide.

Can I fly with this problem, or soon after surgery?

Ask your own doctor before you book. It depends on your condition and how you are feeling. After surgery, ask your surgeon how long to wait.

What about language, fees and insurance?

These are not confirmed yet and are listed above as awaiting details. Please do not assume anything until they are confirmed.

What number do I call in an emergency?

115 is Iran's emergency number. It works only while you are in Iran. From abroad, use your local emergency number.

Every patient's situation is different; ask your doctor about your own.
